As students and the future of child advocacy, awareness about what is happening during the “new normal” is critical to better serve and ensure the safety of the current population at risk.

Here are a list of coping strategies to utilize during this difficult time:

  1. Staying active

  2. Be creative in the ways you're having fun

  3. Breathe deeply

  4. Practice staying in the present moment

  5. Talk to someone (socially connected)

  6. Structure your day

  7. Reading

  8. Limit your time from the TV, phone, and computer

  9. Remaining calm

  10. Connect with resources

Children take their cues from their parents/caregivers, parents must lead by example. Teaching your children how to express / cope with their emotions is key. Children need honesty and open communication. Making sure to answer their questions truthfully while keeping them at ease is crucial. Lastly, parents need to reassure their children that they are safe / secure especially during these troubling times. Reassurance goes a very long way!
